Lucas Glover Buoyant At U.S. Open

At the end of the day, and at the end of a long U.S. Open, all we know for sure is this: La'Roi Glover picked the wrong day to retire.

La'Roi made six Pro Bowls in 13 NFL seasons and towers over most mortals at 6-foot-2 and nearly 300 pounds. But he's unquestionably the "other" Glover after Lucas Glover (Dion Glover and Gary Glover need not apply) held on against the course, his own nerves and some familiar names to win the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black.

The day began with a sizable number of SportsNation voters still convinced Tiger Woods could make a charge, and just 19 percent of voters picking Glover to win. But the stories of the day quickly became dual charges from Phil Mickelson and David Duval, charges aided by the faltering strokes of early co-leaders Glover and Ricky Barnes.
